I'm still in Boston! What a PubCon conference is like What else we've been doing
I'm still in Boston!
If you want to go straight to the tips and comments about the sessions themselves, please check out our Google Group. I'm making regular comments there.
Today and yesterday I am in Boston attending the 2006 PubCon conference. As some of you know, I'm originally from the Boston area and my family still lives about an hour outside of Boston. So I was able to stay with my sister and her family while I attend. In fact, I was really glad that I was able to talk my brother-in-law to come with me. Brad is the IT director for the Massachusetts Real Estate company, ERA. Actually, they are global, but he works with the local Massachusetts office.
Going with Brad made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. Not only did I get to type these notes in the car on the ride there, but we were able to attend different sessions and compare notes. And it's just plain fun to be with someone while you attend something like this.
What a PubCon conference is like
I've attended a couple of Search Engine Strategies conferences before, but the PubCon conference definitely has a different feel to it. SES is generally a lot bigger and has more "Marketing People". At this PubCon conference, you get the feeling that most of these people really know search. In fact, a colleague of mine in Canada noted that I will probably get more usable tips at this conference. So far, she's right.
One of my favorite parts was arriving two hours early the first day. It seems Brad and I overestimated the Boston trafic, so we were just about the first people here. When I walked in, I was greeted by Brett Tabke (WebMasterWorld president and conference owner) himself. That was pretty cool. I actually got to talk to him a couple times. He estimated that almost 1,000 would attend, and that seems about right.
I'm learning a lot and asking a lot of questions at this conference. Several of the parts were just plain amazing. Be sure to follow the link at the top to learn more about my comments and observations.
What else we've been doing
OK, so I have not written a newsletter in a while. I know, I know. We've been busy as usual, so that's not news.
What is news is that my friend and colleague Mark Peery is no longer working with us in the office. He is now a "partner" and is working from home. He does sales and support for our Shopping Search Program and some other odds and end work I need help with.
Also, I'm having a blast with my sister, brother-in-law, and nieces in Massachusetts this week. We all enjoyed American Idol and House together last night. I hope to spend more time with them all before I leave late tomorrow.
Well, it's time to go to the next session. Again, be sure to visit our group to learn more about what is happening. Yesterday was awesome.
By the way, please be sure to sign up if you got to this page some other way.
